About the NP233 Transfer Case

The NP233 transfer case was manufactured by New Process. This model is chain driven. The NP233 is three speeds 2WD, 4WD high and 4WD low with electric shift, part time transfer case. The NP233 was used in Chevrolet S10 Blazer, S10 and GM Jimmy pickups and Dodge Dakota and Durango’s. This unit was utilized beginning in 1992.

The NP233 was manufactured with left side drop output and has a low gear ratio of 2.72 to 1. This unit has combination of 2WD, 4W high and 4W low. The units are provided with 27 spline front output and utilizes a rear slip yokes.

Potential problems with the NP233 Transfer Case

This unit can have issues with premature chain and sprocket wear and failure. Another problem associated with the NP233 transfer case is input shaft, range hub and fork failure. In general the NP233 design is very good of the horsepower rating that it is specified for.
