The HED is s 3 speed, RWD, with an iron case, 4 bolt top cover has a 3 bolt bearing retainer, the extension housing can be iron or aluminum. The unit has side shifter linkage with non-syncro 1 st gear, 24 tooth brass rings on 2nd, 3rd and a 4 step cluster gear. The main shaft is helical angle pitched right. The HED was used by Ford and Mercury. This popular 3 Speed transmission is used in the following models: Ford Falcon, Ranchero, Fairlane and Mustang. Mercury used the HED in both the Comet and Montego vehicles.
