Our factory rebuilt re-manufactured Transfer Cases are tested before leaving the factory. In the beginning New Process manufactured these transfer cases and later they were manufactured by New Venture Gear, mechanically they are both about the same. This model is a chain drive, output is on the driver-side with center rear output. The NP242 was used by AMC in Jeeps before Chrysler took over. The unit has been utilized in XJ Cherokee, Wagoneer and Comanches as well as in the Liberty KJ. General Motors also used this transfer case in the Hummer H1 until 2006, and in their H2 model from 2003 to 2009.

What is the NP242 Transfer Case

The NP242 was manufactured with manual shift, it is a replacement unit for the earlier NP228. transfer case is a full-time, chain drive, 2.72:1 ratio, and has a magnesium case with 4WD low locked, neutral, 4WD high part time, 4WD high and 2WD high. This unit is a popular replacement/upgrade for the NP231.
